When the doctor said my wife's pain is just "mittelschmerz" I decided to do some research. So after I left the hospital and reported to my office I casually mentioned to one of my officemates who is presently studying medical transcription this weird sounding diagnosis. She reacted immediately and scanned her medical journal. There under the subject of Gynecologic Signs and Symptoms she found "mittelschmerz".
"Mittelschmerz" is a German term which means "middle pain". And for obvious reason the pain usually occurs midway between the woman's menstrual cycle. The journal says that this dull, aching pain is brought about by peritoneal irritation by a small volume of blood escaping from the ovary at the time of ovulation and is said to be felt only on one side of the pelvis for minutes to hours. In layman's term, "mittelschmerz" is only an ovulatory pain.
To my surprise the doctor just ordered my wife to take "ibuprofen" to ease her pain.
